East Bay College Fund announces the 13 recipients of its third annual “Great Expectations Awards”. New this year is a scholarship in honor of the late Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm and the inclusion of an Emeryville scholar.
“We are excited to be working with Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Oakland business and community leaders to provide the Shirley Chisholm scholarship,” says Andy Fremder, President of East Bay College Fund. “In addition, we are broadening our geographic reach by partnering with the Emery Ed Fund to present a scholarship to a student from Emeryville.”
The awards include $208,000 in scholarships to 13 public high school seniors from Oakland Unified and Emeryville School Districts. Each student will receive $16,000 over the next four years. East Bay College Fund also provides an adult mentor for each scholar to provide sustained support and guidance during the student’s college years.
