Onsite Advising Centers takes Equity Approach to College Access

Based at Oakland and Castlemont high schools, both under-performing schools with graduation rates below state averages, East Bay College Fund provides onsite college advising services. Using our unique “equity approach” we are creating a college-going culture on these campus so that all students – regardless of race, economic or academic background – are expected to advance to a higher education. We provide:
- School wide motivational and engagement activities
- Monthly workshops in grades 9-12 teaching students to make smart educational choices that lead to higher education, for example, A-G class selection, tutoring programs, and summer academic intensives.
- Individual college advising to seniors and their parents at the College/Career Centers providing help in SAT prep, college selection, application, FASFA, and scholarships. Having a full-time onsite presence has engendered support from school administration creating additional outreach success.
