2B Scholarship

I am excited for the opportunity to encourage the younger generation to go to college.

-Odalys Santillan, 2017-18 2B Scholarship Recipient

Long-time Oakland residents and East Bay College Fund supporters, Jo and Norm Budman, have been volunteers in Oakland elementary schools for over a decade, providing 1:1 reading support for K-3 students and tutoring 4th and 5th graders in math. As lifelong education advocates, the Budmans align with East Bay College Fund’s mission to help more under-resourced Oakland students access college and persist to graduation.  They started the 2B Scholarship to provide incentive for students at three East Oakland elementary schools they’ve worked with and  support, to encourage these students to stay in school and graduate from high school, knowing there is funding for their college education.  The 2B Scholarship is named to encourage students to make the life choice ‘2B’ instead of ‘not 2B.’

This scholarship will add college freshman year funds for eligible East Bay College Fund scholars who graduated from New Highland , Brookfield and Parker Elementary schools, then from an Oakland public high school, and are accepted to 4 year colleges and universities.  As college expenses keep rising, co-sponsors and donors are encouraged to help expand the support offered each year to more and more of these resilient students.
